Malaysia Retail Sales Rise the Least in 4 Years
Retail trade in Malaysia increased by 6.8 percent year-on-year in October 2019, slowing from a 7.2 percent rise in the prior month. This was the weakest yearly growth in retail trade since October 2015, with sales growth easing for other goods (8.1% vs 8.5% in September), other household equipment (5.8% vs 6.4%), information and communication equipment (3.9% vs 4.2%), automotive fuel (3.6% vs 4.0%), retail sales in non-specialised stores (8.0% vs 8.4%), food, beverages and tobacco (8.2% vs 8.6%), and cultural and recreation goods (5.5% vs 6.1%). Meantime, retail sale via stalls and markets grew faster (8,3% vs 7.6%). Also, wholesale trade advanced softer (3.9% vs 4.7%). At the same time, sales of motor vehicles went up less than a month earlier (3.7% vs 4.4%). On a monthly basis, retail trade jumped 1.6 percent in October, following a 5 percent drop in September.

Malaysia Retail Sales Rise the Most in 3 Months
Retail trade in Malaysia increased by 7.2 percent year-on-year in September 2019, accelerating from an upwardly revised 6.9 percent rise in the prior month. This was the strongest yearly growth in retail trade since June, with sales growth accelerating for other goods (8.5% vs 8.0% in August), other household equipment (6.4% vs 6.2%), information and communication equipment (4.2% vs 3.0%), automotive fuel (4.0% vs 2.9%), retail sales in non-specialised stores (8.4% vs 7.9%). Meanwhile, sales growth eased for food, beverages and tobacco (8.6% vs 9.6%); cultural and recreation goods (6.1% vs 8.2%); retail sale via stalls and markets (8.6% vs 9.6%). On the other hand, wholesale trade advanced softer (4.7% vs 6.0%). Meantime, sales of motor vehicles went up faster (4.4% vs 1.1%). On a monthly basis, retail trade fell 5 percent in September, following a downwardly revised 0.1 percent drop in August.

This was the weakest yearly growth in retail trade since October 2015, with sales growth easing for other goods (7.7% vs 8.2% in July), other household equipment (6.2% vs 6.6%), information and communication equipment (3.0% vs 3.3%), automotive fuel (2.9% vs 3.2%), retail sales in non-specialised stores (7.8% vs 8.1%), and food, beverages and tobacco (9.0% vs 10.5%).Meanwhile, sales growth accelerated for both cultural and recreation goods (8.2% vs 7.8%) and retail sale via stalls and markets (8.4% vs 7.7%). Also, wholesale trade advanced softer (6.3% vs 6.6%). On the other hand, sales of motor vehicles rebounded (1.1% vs -1.7%). On a monthly basis, retail trade fell 0.2 percent in August, following an 1.1 percent gain in July.

This was the weakest yearly growth in retail trade since a 7 percent gain in April, with sales growth easing for other goods (8.2% vs 9.1% in June), cultural and recreation goods (7.8% vs 8.6%), other household equipment (6.6% vs 6.9%), information and communication equipment (3.3% vs 3.7%), automotive fuel (3.2% vs 4.5%), retail sale via stalls and markets (7.7% vs 8.6%), and retail sales in non-specialised stores (8.1% vs 8.8%). At the same time, sales of food, beverages and tobacco grew at a steeper rate (10.5% vs 9.2%). Meanwhile, wholesale trade advanced faster (6.6% vs 6.4%,) while sales of motor vehicles fell less (-1.7% vs -2.5%). On a monthly basis, retail trade rose 1.1 percent in July, following a 4.4 percent gain in June.

Malaysia Retail Sales Growth Slows to 7.7% in June
Retail trade in Malaysia increased by 7.7 percent year-on-year in June 2019, easing from a 7.8 percent rise in the prior month. Sales growth slowed for food, beverages and tobacco (9.2 percent vs 9.6 percent in May); other household equipment (6.9 percent vs 7.7 percent); other goods (9.1 percent vs 9.3 percent); retails sale via stalls and markets (8.6 percent vs 9.9 percent); and retail sales in non-specialised stores (8.8 percent vs 9.0 percent). Meantime, sales growth accelerated for both automotive fuel (4.5 percent vs 3.5 percent) and cultural and recreation goods (8.6 percent vs 8.4 percent). On the other hand, wholesale trade went up faster (6.4 percent vs 5.5 percent) while sales of motor vehicles fell (-2.5 percent vs 9.1 percent). On a monthly basis, retail trade rose 4.4 percent, compared to a 5.3 percent gain in May.

Retail sales in Malaysia increased by 7.8 percent year-on-year in May 2019, accelerating from an upwardly revised 7.0 percent rise in the prior month. It was the biggest gain in retail trade since February, as sales growth accelerated for automotive fuel (3.5 percent vs 3.3 percent in April); food, beverages and tobacco (9.6 percent vs 8.8 percent); other household equipment (7.7 percent vs 5.8 percent); other goods (9.3 percent vs 7.8 percent); retails sale via stalls and markets (9.9 percent vs 8.2 percent); cultural and recreation goods (8.4 percent vs 7.2 percent), and retail sales in non-specialised stores (9.0 percent vs 8.1 percent). Also, both wholesale trade (5.5 percent vs 5.3 percent) and sales of motor vehicles (9.1 percent vs 2.2 percent) went up faster. On a monthly basis, retail trade jumped 5.3 percent, after a downwardly revised 4.0 percent fall in April.
