Estonian Retail Sales Growth Slows to 4% in August
Estonian retail trade increased 4.0 percent year-on-year in August 2019, easing from a 4.5 percent gain in the prior month. Sales growth slowed for: other specialised stores (5.2 percent from 7.4 percent in July); pharmaceutical and medical goods, cosmetics (3.8 percent vs 7.2 percent), and automotive fuel (1.6 percent vs 1.8 percent. Meantime, sales growth accelerated for: household goods and appliances, hardware and building materials (5.9 percent vs 4.5 percent); second-hand goods and in stalls, markets, direct sale (6.0 percent vs 2.0 percent), and textiles, clothing and footwear (9.1 percent vs 3.3 percent). On the other hand, sales of food, beverages and tobacco continued to drop (-1.1 percent vs -3.4 percent). On a monthly basis, retail trade fell 1.8 percent, after a 4.6 percent gain in July.

Estonian Retail Sales Rise the Most in 3 Months
Estonian retail trade increased 4.5 percent year-on-year in July 2019, accelerating from a 2.5 percent gain in the prior month. This was the highest growth in retail trade since April, as sales growth accelerated for: other specialised stores (7.4 percent from 7.0 percent in June); household goods and appliances, hardware and building materials (4.5 percent vs 3.4 percent), and pharmaceutical and medical goods, cosmetics (7.2 percent vs 2.5 percent). In addition, sales rebounded for both automotive fuel (1.8 percent vs -1.8 percent) and second-hand goods and in stalls, markets, direct sale (2.0 percent vs -1.3 percent). Meantime, sales growth slowed for textiles, clothing and footwear (3.3 percent vs 11.8 percent). Conversely, sales of food, beverages and tobacco fell (-3.4 percent vs 12.6 percent). On a monthly basis, retail trade rose 4.6 percent, after a 1.1 percent fall in June.

Estonian retail trade increased 2.5 percent year-on-year in June 2019, accelerating from an 1.6 percent gain in the prior month. Retail trade growth accelerated for: other specialised stores (7.0 percent from 5.7 percent in May); textiles, clothing and footwear (11.8 percent vs 3.3 percent); household goods and appliances, hardware and building materials (3.4 percent vs 1.3 percent). In addition retail trade dropped softer for both automotive fuel (-1.8 percent vs -3.9 percent) and second-hand goods and in stalls, markets, direct sale (-1.3 percent vs -4.8 percent). Meantime, sales growth slowed for pharmaceutical and medical goods, cosmetics (2.5 percent vs 9.9 percent in May); food, beverages and tobacco (12.6 percent vs 18.5 percent). On a monthly basis, retail trade fell 1.1 percent, after a 4.8 percent rise in May, the first monthly decrease in retail trade since February.

Estonian May Retail Sales Growth Eases to 5-Month Low
Estonian retail trade rose 1.6 percent year-on-year in May 2019, slowing from an 8.2 percent gain in the prior month. It was the lowest gain in retail sales since December last year, when retail trade fell by 0.3 percent. Retail trade growth slowed: other specialised stores (5.7 percent from 24.4 percent in April); textiles, clothing and footwear (3.3 percent vs 4.2 percent); household goods and appliances, hardware and building materials (1.3 percent vs 9.5 percent). In addition retail trade shrank for both automotive fuel (-3.9 percent vs 2.0 percent) and second-hand goods and in stalls, markets, direct sale (-4.8 percent vs 16.7 percent). Meantime, sales growth accelerated for pharmaceutical and medical goods, cosmetics (9.9 percent vs 5.5 percent in April); food, beverages and tobacco (18.5 percent vs 17.5 percent). On a monthly basis, retail trade increased 4.8 percent, after a 0.4 percent rise in April.

Estonian Retail Sales Rise the Most Since 2016
Estonian retail trade rose 8.2 percent year-on-year in April 2019, accelerating from a 5.5 percent gain in the prior month. It was the highest gain in retail sales since January of 2016. Sales rose faster for pharmaceutical and medical goods, cosmetics (5.5 percent vs 3.7 percent in March) and in other specialised stores (24.4 percent from 10.8 percent) while those of food, beverages and tobacco (17.5 percent vs -4.0 percent) rebounded sharply. Meantime, sales growth slowed for automotive fuel (2.0 percent vs 7.1 percent); textiles, clothing and footwear (4.2 percent vs 15.4 percent); household goods and appliances, hardware and building materials (9.5 percent vs 12.6 percent) and second-hand goods and in stalls, markets, direct sale (16.7 percent vs 17.2 percent). On a monthly basis, retail trade went up 0.4 percent, after a 13.8 percent jump in March.

Estonian retail trade rose 5.5 percent year-on-year in March 2019, accelerating from a 5.3 percent gain in the prior month. Sales rose faster for textiles, clothing and footwear (15.4 percent vs 13 percent in February); household goods and appliances, hardware and building materials (12.6 percent vs 9.7 percent); pharmaceutical and medical goods, cosmetics (3.7 percent vs 0.2 percent) and second-hand goods and in stalls, markets, direct sale (17.2 percent vs 6.1 percent). In addition, sales fell less for food, beverages and tobacco (-4.0 percent vs -6.9 percent. On the other hand, sales growth slowed for automotive fuel (7.1 percent vs 8.4 percent). On a monthly basis, retail trade jumped 13.8 percent, after a 5.7 percent fall in February.
