Uganda Inflation Rate at 5-Month High of 3%
Uganda's annual inflation rate rose to 3 percent in November 2019 from 2.5 percent in the previous month. It was the highest inflation rate since June, mainly driven by housing & utilities (5.9 percent vs 4.2 percent in October); miscellaneous goods & services (7.7 percent vs 7.6 percent); clothing & footwear (4.7 percent vs 3.9 percent); transport (4 percent, the same pace as in October) and education (6.8 percent, the same pace as in October). Inflation also ticked up for food & non-alcoholic beverages (0.9 percent vs 0.3 percent); alcoholic beverages & tobacco (2.1 percent vs 1.6 percent) and restaurants & hotels (2.5 percent vs 2 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.3 percent, after increasing 0.2 percent in the previous month.

Uganda Inflation Rate at Near 1-1/2-Year Low of 1.9%
Uganda's headline inflation eased to 1.9 percent in September 2019 from 2.1 percent in the prior month, reaching its lowest level since May last year, as prices fell for food & non-alcoholic beverages (-0.9 percent vs 0.1 percent in July), mostly sugar (-20.1 percent), bananas (-23.8 percent) and also communication (-10.1 percent vs -10 percent). In addition, cost advanced less for miscellaneous goods & services (7 percent vs 7.3 percent); recreation & culture (1.8 percent vs 2.2 percent) and clothing & footwear (4 percent vs 4.6 percent). Meanwhile, inflation was higher for housing & utilities (2.3 percent vs 1.2 percent); furnishings (2.4 percent vs 2.1 percent); health (2.6 percent vs 2.4 percent); restaurants & hotels (2.4 percent vs 1.9 percent) and alcoholic beverages, tobacco & narcotics (1.6 percent vs 1.0 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices inched up 0.7 percent, following a 0.4 percent rise in the previous month.

Uganda Inflation Rate at Over 1-Year Low of 2.1%
Uganda's headline inflation dipped to 2.1 percent in August 2019, the lowest since May last year, from 2.6 percent in the previous month. Prices slowed primarily for food & non-alcoholic beverages (0.1 percent vs 1.4 percent in July), mainly as a result of a decline in sugar prices (-13.5 percent vs -5.9 percent); clothing & footwear (4.6 percent vs 5.4 percent) and transport (4.7 percent vs 8.1 percent). In addition, cost fell at the same pace for communication (-10 percent). Meanwhile, prices rebounded for housing & utilities (1.2 percent vs -1.0 percent) and rose further for health (2.4 percent vs 2.0 percent); restaurants & hotels (1.9 percent vs 1.7 percent); education (7.1 percent vs 6.8 percent) and recreation & culture (2.2 percent vs 1.7 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.4 percent, after decreasing 0.4 percent in the prior month.

Uganda Inflation Rate Ticks Up to 3.4% in June
Uganda's headline inflation edged up to 3.4% in June 2019 from 3.3% in the previous month. Main upward pressure came from prices of transport (11.2% vs 11.4% in May); communication (14.5%, the same pace as in May) and education (6.8% vs 3.6%). In addition, cost rebounded for food & non-alcoholic beverages (0.5% vs -0.2%). Conversely, prices fell for housing & utilities (-0.3% vs 2.8%), led by electricity, gas and other fuels (-1% vs 0.4%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices dropped 0.1 percent, after increasing 0.4 percent in the previous month.

Uganda Inflation Rate Edges Down to 3.3%
The annual inflation rate in Uganda eased to 3.3 percent in May 2019 from 3.5 percent in the previous month. Prices slowed for most of categories, particularly transport (11.4 percent vs 11.7 percent in April); housing & utilities (2.8 percent vs 3.2 percent); miscellaneous goods & services (7 percent vs 7.4 percent) and communication (14.5 percent vs 20.5 percent). At the same time, cost fell at a softer pace for food & non-alcoholic beverages (-0.2 percent vs -1.1 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.4 percent, after a 0.8 percent rise in April.

Uganda February Inflation Rate at 3-Month High of 3%
The annual inflation rate in Uganda rose to 3.0 percent in February 2019 from 2.7 percent in the prior month, being the highest since November. Prices remained elevated for transport (9.4% vs 9.5% in January) and climbed for communication (21.4% vs 5.5%), namely telephone and telefax services (28.7% vs 7%). Also, cost rose faster for miscellaneous goods services (5.2% vs 3.9%) and restaurants & hotels (1.9% vs 1.8%). Meanwhile, prices continued to decrease for food & non-alcoholic beverages (-1.4% vs -1.5%); and they slowed for health (1.2% vs 1.7%); education (4.3% vs 4.4%); clothing & footwear (4.5% vs 6.7%); furnishings (2.7% vs 4.3%) and alcoholic beverages & tobacco (1.1% vs 1.2%). The annual core inflation, which strips out volatile food and energy prices, also increased to 3.7 percent from 3.4 percent in January. On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.3 percent, after increasing 0.2 percent in the previous month.
